1. Activation, device limit, and free mode
- (a) License Key. A purchase delivers a License Key. Entering it in Settings → License activates Mythodex on that PC.
- (b) Device limit. One License Key may be active on up to three (3) Windows PCs You own or control at the same time. You can free a slot from inside Mythodex (Deactivate this PC) and see which PCs are using the key (Show my activations).
- (c) Activation is online once. Activating, deactivating, and showing Your activations need an internet connection. After a PC is activated, Mythodex works offline and never checks the license again.
- (d) Free mode. Without a License Key, Mythodex runs in free mode: one project holding one book, one full reading, and 10 Brainstorm questions in all. Everything a reading produced stays viewable after a limit is reached. Free mode is how You try Mythodex before buying (see Section 7).
2. Online or offline
Mythodex runs on Your PC. It connects to the internet only for:
- Readings and Brainstorm, which send text to the AI provider You chose (Section 3). With a local model on Your own PC, these send nothing off the PC.
- Activation of the License Key and the two related actions in Section 1(b), through Red Warden's license service (Section 3).
- Update checks (Section 6).
- Model list refresh in Settings, which sends Your API key to that provider to list the models it offers (no manuscript text, no notes).
Mythodex contains no telemetry, usage analytics, crash reporting, or advertising, and has no feature that sends Your content to Red Warden.
3. Data the product touches
Stays on Your PC (never collected by Red Warden):
- Your manuscripts. Mythodex reads Your Word (.docx) files and never changes them.
- The project folder You choose: the text Mythodex extracted from Your books, the reader notes, Your private notes, and Your Brainstorm conversation. These files are not encrypted; protect the folder as You would the manuscript itself.
- Your settings, Your free-mode counters, and two local log files (
mythodex.logfor app warnings and errors, updates.logfor update events), kept in Your Windows user profile. - Your API keys, encrypted with Windows' own data protection (Section 4).
Sent off Your PC — to the AI provider You choose:
- Reading. Each chapter being read (or each piece of a long chapter) is sent directly from Your PC to the provider You selected.
- Brainstorm. Your question, the last few turns of the conversation, and the reader notes for Your series are sent to the provider that answers. Your manuscripts and Your private notes are not sent by Brainstorm.
- These go straight from Your PC to the provider, never through Red Warden. Before Your first reading, Mythodex shows a notice summarizing what each provider says it does with that text, and readings stay off until You accept it.
- Local models. With a model server on Your own PC (Ollama or LM Studio), nothing leaves Your PC. If You point Mythodex at a server on another computer, Mythodex asks You first, and that server's operator decides what happens to the text.
Sent to Red Warden — License Key activation only:
- When You activate, deactivate, or show Your activations, Mythodex sends Your License Key and, for activation, Your PC's Windows computer name (used as the label that tells Your PCs apart in "Show my activations"; for deactivation, the activation's ID instead of the name). It goes to Red Warden's license service, a small program running on Cloudflare, which passes it to our merchant of record, Creem, to check and record the activation. Creem keeps the activation record (the key, the label, and when it was made) as part of Your license.
- The license service itself stores nothing. When an activation fails, it writes a short error record (what was attempted and the reason Creem gave — not Your key or Your PC's name) to Cloudflare's logs, which Cloudflare keeps for no more than 3 days and then deletes. Like any website, Cloudflare sees the IP address the request comes from.
- Nothing else is ever sent to Red Warden. No account with Red Warden is required.
Intended audience / minimum age: Mythodex is intended for adults 18 and over and is not directed to minors.
4. Third-party services and user-supplied API keys (Bring Your Own Key)
- Providers: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google (Gemini) and xAI (Grok), using Your own API key from each. The authoritative list is the one shown in Settings → API keys. A model running on Your own PC through Ollama or LM Studio needs no key.
- Where keys are kept: on Your PC, encrypted with Windows' data protection (DPAPI). If Your PC can't encrypt a key, Mythodex refuses to save it rather than storing it in plain text. Mythodex never shows a saved key back to You in full.
- Who receives them: each key is sent only to its own provider, with the requests You start. Keys are never sent to Red Warden. An Anthropic workspace ID, if You enter one, is stored in Your settings file and sent only to Anthropic.
- Costs: every provider bills You directly under Your own account. AI usage costs are separate from the one-time license fee (master Section 5(e)). Mythodex shows token counts but not prices. Google's free Gemini tier is Google's offer, not a free trial of Mythodex (master Section 8(f)), and Google says it may use what is sent on that tier to improve its products; Mythodex's notice warns against using a free Gemini key for an unpublished manuscript.
- Master Section 8 applies in full.
5. AI features
- Uses AI: Yes. AI models read Your chapters and write notes with paragraph citations, and answer Your questions in Brainstorm. Mythodex does not write prose for You.
- Providers: those in Section 4, run by those providers, not by Red Warden.
- Output ownership: You own Your manuscripts, the notes, and Brainstorm answers (master Section 6).
- Accuracy: notes and answers can be wrong. Mythodex checks the quotes in its notes against Your text, but that check does not catch everything; each note cites the paragraph it came from so You can check it (master Section 9(b)).
- Training on user data: per master Section 9(a). Red Warden does not train on Your work. Each provider's own training practices are governed by its terms (master Section 9(e)).
6. Updates
- Mythodex checks for a new version about 10 seconds after it starts and every 4 hours while it runs, by asking GitHub (the Red Warden Studios
Mythodex-releasespage) whether a newer release exists. The request carries nothing about You or Your work beyond what any web request does (Your IP address and a standard browser-style header). - A newer version downloads automatically and installs when You quit Mythodex, or right away if You choose Restart. An update never installs while a reading or a Brainstorm answer is in progress.
- There is no setting to turn automatic updates off. Master Section 11 applies.
7. Refund rule
Per master: all sales are final (master Refund Policy Section 1), except where the law requires otherwise.
- Try first: free mode (Section 1(d)) lets You read a whole book and ask Brainstorm questions before buying.
- Delivery/activation support: if You do not receive Your License Key, or it will not activate, contact support@redwardenstudios.com (master Refund Policy Section 4).
- System requirements: Mythodex needs Windows 10 or 11, and an API key from a supported provider or a local model server. Incompatibility that could have been checked beforehand is not grounds for a refund.
- Chargebacks: master Section 5(g) applies.
8. Extra restrictions
Copy or clone (master Section 7(b)). You may not copy the Mythodex design, user interface, cited-note format, or story-memory architecture for use in a competing product or service.
License protection. Mythodex protects its activation with a signed local license file; master Section 7(d) (no circumventing license enforcement) applies to it and to the free-mode limits.
9. Open-source details
Mythodex is proprietary. It includes third-party open-source components (among them Electron and Chromium) under their own licenses, whose notices ship with the installed app. Master Section 4 applies to those components.
10. Overrides of the master
None. The sections above supply the product details the master leaves to the Add-on.
