Using SineWav in OBS

OBS Studio loads VST2 plugins only, and SineWav is VST3. A free third-party plugin host called atkAudio bridges the two. This page walks through the whole setup.

What you need

  • OBS Studio 31.1.1 or newer, 64-bit.
  • SineWav, installed and activated. Download page
  • atkAudio, a free plugin host for OBS.

About atkAudio

atkAudio is made by a third party. It is free and open source (AGPL-3.0). We link to it and never redistribute it. Get it from its OBS forum page.

Set it up

  1. Install SineWav. Run the SineWav installer as administrator with OBS closed. The plugins install to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\.
  2. Activate. Open the SineWav app, paste your license key and click Add license. That activates this computer. A plugin that is not activated passes audio through untouched.
  3. Install atkAudio. Download it from its OBS forum page, run its Windows installer, then start or restart OBS.
  4. Add it to your mic. In OBS’s Audio Mixer, open your mic’s menu, then choose Filters, then +, then atkAudio Plugin Host. Open it and pick a SineWav plugin from the VST3 list, for example SineWav NS.

If a full plugin scan stops partway, scan only the SineWav plugins.

  5. One filter per plugin. Add another atkAudio Plugin Host filter for each SineWav plugin you want to use. OBS applies filters from top to bottom; drag a filter to reorder it. atkAudio can also hold several plugins in one filter. That is optional, for advanced users.
  6. Monitor from your interface. Listen to your mic directly from your audio interface, not through OBS. SineWav’s latency then only affects what your stream hears, never what you hear.
  7. Check your levels. Watch the IN and OUT meters on each SineWav plugin, then check OBS’s mixer.

Latency

Each plugin reports the latency below to its host. It affects only what your stream hears, not you. Monitor your mic directly from your audio interface.

PluginAdded latency
SineWav NS30 ms
SineWav Gate10 ms
SineWav Limiterabout 5.4 ms
SineWav De-esser2 ms
SineWav EQ-Octo0 ms
SineWav Compressor0 ms

Other hosts

SineWav is tested in OBS Studio (through atkAudio) and REAPER. Other VST3 hosts should work but are not yet tested.
